How to be the Best Flatmate Ever

Uni can be a stressful time, and when tensions are running high it's easy to get short tempered. To keep the peace in your student accommodation then be sure to follow these simple rules, who knows? Maybe you'll even get to be everyone's favourite flatmate ever.

  • Do your washing up - There's nothing more frustrating for your flatmates than trying to work their cooking around your dirty dishes. It won't take you a minute, and it'll keep everyone off your back!
  • Keep the noise down - You may think that new song is great, but at 3am with a test the next morning your flatmates might not agree.
  • Ask for permission not forgiveness - One of the great things about moving out from home is living by your own rules, but when it comes to things that will impact your flatmates too it's always best to keep them sweet. If you want to throw a party, double check - your flatmates will appreciate that you took the time to ask them and more likely to be in a good mood when you do have people over.
  • Stick to your own food - You've run out of bread and everybody is out, but as a rule of thumb don't take anybody's food without asking first. Unless you're great mates and you've asked before, that sort of thing will really start to rub your flatmates up the wrong way.
  • Lend a hand - Your flatmate might say that they don't mind cleaning the bathroom, but after a few times I'm sure they'd really appreciate you to pull your weight too. Making a cleaning rota will also help to keep the peace.
  • Do something nice - Making your poorly flatmate a cup of tea or helping them with their washing up when they have a test in a few hours will not only get you in their good books, but will also mean that they're far more likely to help you out in the future.

It might sound like a lot to take in, but just remember, when you come back at four in the morning and have forgotten your key, they have all the power!

How to Beat Freshers' Flu

It's that time of year again; if you're a fresher, or just returning to uni then that all too familiar lurgy could hit you at any time. If it's already too late for you then follow some of these handy tips to get you back on your feet ASAP.

  • Berocca - Loads yourself up with some extra vitamins to help you feel a little more alive and human.
  • Sleep - We know that when partying is the first thing on your mind, and you've got work to do this may not be too high on your priority list, but grabbing a cheeky nap whenever you can will really make all the difference.
  • Water - Yes, it's boring, but how else do you expect to be on top form for the next night out?
  • Chicken Soup - Just like your mum used to make it - straight out of a Heinz can! Not only is it a lot easier to eat if you've got a sore throat, but something nice and hot will make you feel a whole lot better.

Hopefully these tips will have you back to your normal self before you know it.
